The Table Talk Podcast story
From launch to over 50,000 listeners in just two years
Launched in 2019, the Table Talk Podcast was created to give a voice to leaders who are shaping food, nutrition, sustainability and health across the industry. With podcasts providing a unique chance to hear directly from change-makers, ingredients experts, gut health gurus, and the pioneers redefining how we think about nutrition and how we’ll feed and nurture a growing population, Table Talk offers an engaging look behind the headlines and a chance to learn the science that is propelling innovation.
The first episode is launched on March 27th, featuring guests from Cancer Research UK, Waitrose, and Health Action Campaign focuses on how the industry can support healthy behavioural change. The first episode appears at number 6 in the Apple Podcasts food podcasts category chart in the UK.
Tim Spector joins the podcast, his first of two appearances so far, to reveal his groundbreaking research on gut health and its connections to overall health and wellbeing. Volac become the first Table Talk Podcast partner, with an episode looking at the growing world of active lifestyle consumers and sports nutrition.
In six months the podcast has reached over 6,000 listeners with episodes focused on clean label, sensory science, allergy awareness, packaging that connects with consumers, the science behind fuller for longer food, data driven customer experience and tech and AI.
In just one year the podcast reaches 18,000 listeners across the globe, with episodes charting in regional Apple Podcast charts concentrated in countries such as the UK, USA, New Zealand, Australia, UAE, Canada, Brazil, India, and Japan.
Givaudan become the latest Table Talk partner, with a series of episodes focused on consumer behaviours following the outbreak of COVID-19. They join an illustrious group of partners including Volac, MMR Research, Kellogg’s, Siemens, Lieber GmbH, Sopheon, Glanbia Nutritionals, Connoils, GS1, the UK Food Standards Agency, California Prunes, Olam International, Tetra Pak and more who’ve utilised the podcast to reach a wider audience.
Tim Spector joins us for a second popular episode, focused on how everything we think we understand about nutrition may be wrong. Other popular episodes include a look at the UK obesity strategy from both the government and industry POV, how data-driven agriculture can transform farming, how we can apply AI to the food industry, and what the future of retail will look like.
The new year kicks off with a focus on COVID-19 related loss of taste and smell, and what it might mean for the industry. COVID-19, and its impacts, have been popular with the Table Talk audience who are quickly adapting to the changes to consumer behaviour as a result of the pandemic.
Over 52,000 listeners have joined the Table Talk community since the channel was launched in March 2019. With more than 30,000 joining since March 2020 alone.
